When a person is suffering the pain of acute psychiatric disorder or other traumatic life circumstance, immediate intervention can minimize distress and disruption, at the same time preventing an escalation of the crisis.
Emergency psychiatric services are the core of the local system's acute care services, emphasizing quick response and easy accessibility to service. The Emergency Services teams in conjunction with the CCBC psychiatry staff utilize the local 24-hour emergency rooms as well as a site in Norton, and the Brockton Multi-Service Center. We offer psychiatric services on a daily basis at both the Norton site and Brockton sites and also provide 24 hour psychiatric back-up through the DMH clinical staff.
Our services may include emergency psychiatric evaluation and follow-up with our team of outpatient clinical staff which typically involves brief, intensive counseling around the crisis. We are committed to diverting hospitalization for both adults and children / adolescents. By assisting the person and family in managing the life situation or aspect of illness that is causing concern, we seek to maintain them in the least restrictive environment possible.
We are able to intervene in ways that can quickly address the problem. The latest methods in treatment and research keep clients in their families, in their communities, receiving the care they need. Our emergency intervention is local, not disruptive to support systems, and returns the client to the optimum level of life role functioning as soon as possible.
